Ten Things of Thankful

Welcome to Ten Things of Thankful!

We gather here each weekend to share our posts about the things we are thankful for in our lives, and sometimes just to report that we've survived a difficult week; when we start focusing on the positives and the silver linings, we are able see that life is good. We also encourage each other by sharing pieces of our own journey. The people who participate in TToT are a truly awesome bunch from all age groups and all walks of life; I hope you'll join us and invite your blog friends to do the same, everyone is welcome!

At Ten Things of Thankful we believe that there are many little things in our lives to be thankful for each day as well as the big things that stand out. Keep in mind that you are not required to list ten things if you can't come up with that many, nobody is keeping score, just do the best you can!  You'll find that once you get started, more things tend to pop into your head! There is no specific format required for your post, you are encouraged to do it your way. Variety makes it interesting!  :-)

This week's TToT link-up will open shortly after midnight (Central Time) on Thursday night, and will remain open until Tuesday night, so you have plenty of time to work on your post.

Please visit as many of the links as possible, sharing your thoughts is what this group is all about; and PLEASE check back next week for new links that were added later, those folks will appreciate your comments too!

Thank you for making our Ten Things of Thankful blog such a blessing in my life,

Please take a moment to answer the following question in the comments section below. It's a fun way for us to get to know each other a little better.  What is one thing your mother did or does that makes you smile when you think about it?

  1. My mother loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays. She always made sure that our birthdays were special, without spending a fortune to do that. There were balloons and streamers and a few beautifully wrapped gifts, our favorite meal, and she made fabulous cut-up cakes in animals shapes. We could choose what we wanted, my favorite was the butterfly!

    1. That sounds so fun. Sounds like my mom.

  2. My mother prayed in her own "war room", and it's what held (and holds) everything together.

She also played her Christmas albums on the stereo almost non-stop for all of December.

    1. Truthfully, Mimi, the prayers of mothers and grandmothers are what has kept us all surviving through the years. <3 I love to play Christmas music all December too, brings back sweet memories, so this made me smile!

  3. My mother danced around the living room ( even when very ill) to Irish music. When she was young she won prizes for Irish dancing and at eighty three still loved it.

    1. What a delightful memory to hold in your heart, Maz! Nothing is quite as spirited as Irish dancing, Papa Bear and I both love the music!

  4. I smile when I remember how my mom looked after her mother, while she was alive. And how she did it, with so much of her father in her. My mom is a natural caregiver.

    1. I love hearing about that kind of devotion in a family, Kerry, how we treat our elders is so important! Caregivers have wonderful hearts!

  5. My mother always cried. Happy tears, sweet tears, sad tears. She always wore sunglasses in church and at funerals or ceremonies so one one would see her tears. And she was always misplacing and losing almost every pair of sunglasses she had.

    1. This made me smile, Val. Those for whom tears come easily have tender hearts. I'm sure now you smile when you put on your own sunglasses and think of hers. <3

  6. When my Mother was in her early 70's she attempted to do a cartwheel to see if she could still do one. She said she had done them when she was young. Just picturing her trying to do that makes me smile and is a reminder of her "can do" personality.

    1. What a fun memory to make you smile! I love people who approach life with a sense of humor and an "I can do this" mentality, something special to hold in your heart!

  7. My mother did so many funny things while being a very serious lady. One day when I came home there was an album playing on the stereo, very loudly. It was Alvin and the Chipmunks...or so I thought. I asked Ma when we got the Alvin and the Chipmunks album and she looked at me like I was crazy and told me it was a Perry Como album. She had it on the wrong speed! Never had a clue!

    1. Oh dear, that is funny! And it sounds just like something I would do... I tend to be a bit oblivious to my surroundings. My father was also a very serious person, but I can recall a few times when he was downright silly, much to the delight of us kids! :-)
