Welcome to Ten Things of Thankful!
We gather here each weekend to share our posts about the things we are thankful for in our lives, and sometimes just to report that we've survived a difficult week; when we start focusing on the positives and the silver linings, we are able see that life is good. We also encourage each other by sharing pieces of our own journey. The people who participate in TToT are a truly awesome bunch from all age groups and all walks of life; I hope you'll join us and invite your blog friends to do the same, everyone is welcome!
At Ten Things of Thankful we believe that there are many little things in our lives to be thankful for each day as well as the big things that stand out. Keep in mind that you are not required to list ten things if you can't come up with that many, nobody is keeping score, just do the best you can! You'll find that once you get started, more things tend to pop into your head! There is no specific format required for your post, you are encouraged to do it your way. Variety makes it interesting! :-)
This week's TToT link-up will open shortly after midnight (Central Time) on Thursday night, and will remain open until Tuesday night, so you have plenty of time to work on your post.
Please visit as many of the links as possible, sharing your thoughts is what this group is all about; and PLEASE check back next week for new links that were added later, those folks will appreciate your comments too!
Thank you for making our Ten Things of Thankful blog such a blessing in my life,

Please take a moment to answer the following question in the comments section below. It's a fun way for us to get to know each other a little better. What is your favorite outdoor scent, and what is your favorite smell coming from the kitchen?
My favorite scent outdoors is sweet olive, and my favorite smell coming from the kitchen is coffee.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what sweet olive smells like, but I bet it's wonderful! I totally enjoy Papa Bear's coffee brewing in the morning too, though I can't drink it, I am allergic to it.
DeleteI love the smell of freshly cut grass and the smell of rain. Also, the smell of someone grilling. Which leads us to the kitchen. My favorite smell there? Coffee. I also love the smell of garlic and onion cooking. No matter what the final dish is, garlic and onion in the pan is amazing.
ReplyDeleteAhh yes, cut grass and rain, I agree. Food cooking on the grill makes me hungry! :-) I like the smell of coffee, and I know what you mean about garlic and onion cooking, it just says good food is in the works! Papa Bear loves garlic!
DeleteI also love the smell of lilacs...reminds me of my grandparents' back yard.
DeleteIt surprised me to discover how many people love the scent of lilacs as much as I do. I wonder if most have some memory of where they most enjoyed the heady perfume of a lilac bush. Scent is a trigger for so many sweet memories!
DeleteMy favorite floral scent is that of lilacs, they are heavenly! Nothing beats the fresh, clean smell of rain though. We typically don't get a lot of rain here, so it's always joyful when it happens. My favorite kitchen smells are homemade bread baking in the oven, and fudge cooking on the stove... and just thinking about them makes me want some! :-)
ReplyDeleteI once had a candle that was a "chocolate truffle" flavor, every time I burned it, the room filled with the smell of fudge cooking and instigated cravings. :-)
DeleteI love the scent of Japanese apricot (ume) blossoms. My favorite smell coming from the kitchen is that of homemade bread being baked.
ReplyDeleteFruit blossoms always seem to be the sweetest, Romi! I love the smell of bread baking too, it is so good to eat while still warm with lots of butter! :-)
DeleteOutdoors - sea, sand and honeysuckle. Indoors - bakery smells - sugar, yeast and vanilla, baking in the oven.
ReplyDeleteThose are all wonderful smells, Val... salt air is the best! And yes, bakery smells, I absorb calories just thinking about them. :-) Baking smells in the kitchen reminds me of being a child at home, mom was always baking something.
DeleteI love the smell of roses and, like Val, honeysuckle :) I think my favourite smell from the kitchen has to be that of a roast dinner :)
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of roses too, Jo, even if they do make me sneeze! Honeysuckle is awesome. A roast dinner smells so delicious, it's fun how many of our memories are tied to good food!
DeleteMy favourite scent from the kitchen is my mom's turkey dinners. Outside my favourite scent is simply that of fresh, cool air, crisp in autumn or reviving in spring.
ReplyDeleteIt made me smile when you mentionted turkey dinner, because one of my memories as a small child is my mom's turkey roasting in the oven on Thanksgiving morning! I agree that fresh, cool air is the best, it makes you feel so wonderful. Somehow hot summer air just doesn't have that same effect.
DeleteOutside it is the smell of lilacs in the spring. In the kitchen it is the smell of popping corn. And now I want a bowl of popcorn and a vase of lilacs. Shoot!
ReplyDeleteIt makes me smile to see that lilacs are a favorite of more than just me. It is such a beautiful fragrance! I totally forgot about how popcorn smells until I read this, and now I'm wanting some too... see what you've started! :-))
DeleteFavorite smells outside just can't be limited to one. Favorites: lilacs, lavender, roses, daphne, mock orange, sweet peas
ReplyDeleteFavorite kitchen smells: cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamon, anise extract, lemon extract, and onion and garlic sautéing.
I am only familiar with the scent of lilacs and roses from your list, but the others must be wonderful too. The amazing variety of flowers, in color, shape, size, and fragrance is such a wonderful example of our Creator's gifts to us! I totally agree about the spices too, just reading your list was bringing them to mind! Onions and garlic sauteing mean something good is in the works for supper! :-)
