TToT - 3/17/17

Ten Things of Thankful
Happy Weekend!

How was your week, did you find lots of reasons to be thankful?  At Ten Things of Thankful we believe that there are many little things in our lives to be thankful for each day as well as the big things that stand out. Keep in mind that you are not required to list ten things if you can't come up with that many, nobody is keeping score, but do the best you can!  You'll find that once you get started, more things tend to pop into your head! :-)

This week's TToT link-up will open shortly after midnight CST on Thursday night, and will remain open until Tuesday night, so you have plenty of time to work on your post.  Please check back next week for new links that were added in later, those folks will appreciate your comments too!

Please take a moment to answer the following questions in the comments section below.  It's a fun way for us to get better acquainted.   Where did you grow up? Do you still live in that area, or if you don't, do you wish you did? If you could live anywhere, where would you choose?

  1. I grew up right here, in the immediate area where I live now. If I could live anywhere, it would be...right here.

  2. I grew up in Essex, (the South East of England). I'm now in Staffordshire which is mid-England. I don't want to be here forever. We're planning on moving a bit further back down South but not as far as Essex as the area I grew up in isn't as nice. We're thinking of Suffolk which is nearer the coast and has plenty of countryside :)

    1. Coast and countryside sound just right to me, I would like that too! :-)

  3. Grew up in NOLA, now living a bit further north, but still the swamps of south Louisiana. It's a great place to be!

    1. I've never been in that area, Mimi but will be in the near future, and I am eager to experience something new! I suspect that you would find a way to be content just about any place God put you! <3

  4. I live in the house my sister and I bought together, ten years ago, a few years before she ended up getting married. Now they live in the house that was our family home growing up. I live near most of my family. Some of us are only ten or fifteen minutes from each other. One brother lives only an hour or so away. I enjoy living near family, near to where I grew up, but I sometimes dream of leaving it all and living somewhere on my own. My heart, seeing what today is, feels oddly connected to Ireland. I sometimes imagine I move there. I would like, sometimes, to pick up and travel and experience life. In the end, I need the support and familiarity of being near the people I love.

    1. How wonderful to live close to family for love, support and encouragement. Maybe Ireland calls to you from another lifetime! I hope you are blessed with many wonderful adventures to other places in the years ahead, experiencing more of the world is truly life-changing!

  5. I grew up in South Dakota - farm country. I moved from there when I was 22 and have only returned to visit family, but I will always consider it to be "home". While my heart is there, I would not care to live there now because of icy, cold winters and summer mosquitoes! If I could live anywhere, it would be someplace with lots of green and a secluded beach within walking distance. :-)

    1. All that being said, I believe strongly that "home is where the heart is." I can be ok living anywhere as long as I am with the one I love. It is who you have in your life that matters!

  6. Where did you grow up?
We actually live diagonally from the apartment my parents lived in when I was born.
Do you still live in that area, or if you don't, do you wish you did?
Yep. It's a great place to raise the boys. I love small towns and this is home. The school district is great.
If you could live anywhere, where would you choose?
    I'm where I belong :)

    1. Growing up in a small town definitely has its advantages, and it sounds like you are indeed right where you belong. There is a nice sense of continuity when you remain in the same community.

  7. interesting question.
Difficult to answer (for a variety of personal/metaphysical reasons) but belonging, while not something any clark assumes, always comes at a price*
The easy answer: Phyllis and Una and I live in southern RI (Hope Valley) which is nice in that it is 15-20 minutes to the ocean.
The cool answer: grew up (the formative 'settle in to the predominant worldview years) on Martha's Vineyard

*which, in and of itself, is not a bad thing, the price thing, not the belonging thing.

    1. Martha's Vineyard - you lucky duck.

    2. I love your home there in the woods, and yet near to the ocean, best of both worlds! Martha's Vineyard - definitely a very cool place to grow up!

  8. I was born and lived in NYC until I was 11 years old. After my father died, my mother relocated my brother, sister and I to Point Pleasant NJ to be near my father's family. It was a more affordable choice for a family being raised by a single mom in the 1960's. I currently live in the next county north of Point Pleasant, which is a beach town on the Jersey shore. I love to travel, so I'd like to live anywhere for a month to satisfy that wanderlust. Permanently, though, somewhere warm and beachy.

    1. I can imagine what an adjustment that was to move from NYC on the verge of adolescence, I'm sure it was difficult for your mother too. I envy you living close enough to walk along the shore anytime you please! I love to travel and explore new places too, there is still so much I want to see!

  9. Where did you grow up? The Philippines
Do you still live in that area, or if you don't, do you wish you did? No, and no but it would be a good place to visit and have authentic Filipino food for a great price.

If you could live anywhere, where would you choose? I'd probably move to Cali. But either states, Cali or Colorado, is a better than living in the Philippines in my opinion.

    1. How old were you when you moved to the US? I can see where it would be fun to go back to visit and to eat authentic food! California and Colorado are so opposite in climate, yet maybe not all that different in the more casual attitudes of people living there. The ideal would maybe be to winter in one state and summer in the other! :-)

  10. I grew up in Northeast Ohio and moved to the South many years ago. I like where I lived and I am happy here I'll stay...unless I don't. I have learned that there is no forever in this life.

    1. We can be happy wherever we are, it is all in how we come to terms with it. If we all had the wisdom to know that nothing in life is permanent, we would perhaps deal with change more easily. Like you, I have no idea where I may yet end up, maybe here, maybe not. I will be ok anywhere.

  11. Hi Josie. I was born in La Crosse WI and recently moved back after being gone for 30 plus years to take care of my mom. I live the area but it is a little small in many ways for me. I think I'll be heading back to CA soon

    1. Hi Skipper! Glad to see you here! I can understand that well. While South Dakota will always feel like home to me, I would not be happy living there for long, the winters are brutal, and the Midwest attitude is somewhat different than what I have experienced other places. I can see you being happier back in California, with what you have learned in the time you've been away. :-) I am glad you got to spend this time with your mother, you will always feel good about that.

  12. I grew up in Oregon's rainy Willamette Valley, but now live in the high desert in southern California. Although there are good things about living here, I do miss many things about Oregon. However, as I've told my husband many times, God made the entire world, and each new place we live is an opportunity to get to know another little corner of it. As long as we are together, I'm happy. :-)

    1. I love your attitude, Kristi! Photos of the Willamette Valley show me what a beautiful place it is, but I have also learned that each place has a beauty of it's own. It is not what we have or where we are that matters, but who we have with us!
