Ten Things of Thankful

Welcome to Ten Things of Thankful!

We gather here each weekend to share our posts about the things we are thankful for in our lives, and sometimes just to report that we've survived a difficult week; when we start focusing on the positives and the silver linings, we are able see that life is good. We also encourage each other by sharing pieces of our own journey. The people who participate in TToT are a truly awesome bunch from all age groups and all walks of life; I hope you'll join us and invite your blog friends to do the same, everyone is welcome!

At Ten Things of Thankful we believe that there are many little things in our lives to be thankful for each day as well as the big things that stand out. Keep in mind that you are not required to list ten things if you can't come up with that many, nobody is keeping score, just do the best you can! You'll find that once you get started, more things tend to pop into your head. There is no specific format required for your post, you are encouraged to do it your way. Variety makes it interesting!  :-)

This week's TToT link-up will open shortly after midnight (Central Time) on Thursday night, and will remain open until Tuesday night, so you have plenty of time to work on your post.

Please visit as many of the links as possible, sharing your thoughts is what this group is all about; and PLEASE check back next week for new links that were added later, those folks will appreciate your comments too!

Thank you for your part in making our Ten Things of Thankful blog such an uplifting experience!

Please take a moment to answer the following question in the comments section below. It's a fun way for us to get to know each other a little better.  What is one of the most difficult/challenging aspects of your life?

  1. One of the most difficult/challenging aspects of my life is balancing how much i both want and need to do with how much my body can actually handle. My work is very taxing, especially with the medical conditions i have, but if we want to eat i have to work.

    1. I can relate well to the struggle to find balance between what must be done and what we are physically capable of. It is good to push ourselves a little, but then it is not good to overdo it to the point of pain and exhaustion. Balance is a tricky thing, and so often, as you point out, we don't have a real choice in the matter. This is true of Papa Bear as well.

  2. The biggest challenge for me is balancing as well. Not only the activities and daily tasks of life, but the financial aspects of my husband's construction business.

    1. Balance seems to be the predominant theme in our lives at this age, Val! Balancing finances is a real challenge, what we need, and what we can afford, and what we are willing to go without. We certainly learn to live more carefully in these challenging times. I think that's true regarding activity and tasks too, we learn what we can accomplish and what we need to pare back a bit so as to not always be on the run. Maybe balance needs to be the theme for the coming year! :-)

  3. The biggest challenges for me are physical... mobility, fibromyalgia and arthritis issues which affect my ability to do the things I want/need to do and make tasks like climbing stairs difficult. It can be really frustrating at times.

    1. I struggle between staying active, which I know is important, and being more sedentary because it isn't as painful. But I know that activity is important to maintain what I am capable of. Maybe motivation is as important as balance. :-)

  4. I find it interesting that the common answer here is about balance--and that is what I would say, too. How can I balance what I want to do/feel a need to do, with the limitations (whether physical, financial, time, etc.) that are on me? That question reminded me of this talk, which is a favorite of mine: https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2003/10/choosing-charity-that-good-part?lang=eng

    1. It surprised me too, that each of us responded to this question with balance concerns. We so often feel the pressure to do more on many levels and it can be very defeating. I'm headed over to check out the talk you've linked to now. Thank you!!

  5. I'd have to say, for me, it's dealing with both disability and invisible illness. One I could deal with easier, but both makes life hard.

    1. I know that has to be very difficult, Kerry. It's definitely twice as difficult to deal with the challenges of both issues, and most often people would only be aware of part of what you struggle with. I wish I knew why God gives some people so much to deal with that makes life a daily struggle, and yet I also see how strong and courageous it has made you, and how you are using your own issues to shine first-hand light on them for others. That is your gift to us!
